Applying to Phi Alpha Theta
The application period for Phi Alpha Theta has closed for the Spring 2014-Fall 2015 year.
Dear History Majors and Minors,
A fine academic record, both in the History Department and overall, could make you eligible for membership in Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society for history. Phi Alpha Theta is among the most prestigious departmental honor societies in America, standing only behind Phi Beta Kappa in overall honor society rank.
- 3.0 overall cumulative Rutgers GPA
- 3.5 cumulative GPA in History major or minor
- Must have completed 60 credits overall (junior or senior standing)
- 4 courses in History at Rutgers University
If you are interested in joining and believe you have met these requirements, please come to the History Department between Monday January 27th and Friday February 21st during the hours of 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. or 1:00-4:00 p.m. Once it is confirmed that you have met the requirements you will give your information to the undergraduate administrator and be invited to the induction ceremony on Thursday April 10th.
At the ceremony you will receive an official certificate validating your membership directly from the Phi Alpha Theta's International Office along with a year's subscription to The Historian, a distinguished historical quarterly. You will then become eligible to apply for prizes, awards, and scholarships available to members only. This distinction will also be noted on your transcript.

The 2014 initiation ceremony for Phi Alpha Theta History Honors Society will be held on:
Thursday April 10th from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in Brower Commons (Rooms A, B & C)
