Follows social and political development of South Asia after decolonization, assessing the developmental agendas and international relations of the new regimes.

01:508:337 Pirates, Pilgrims, and Poets: Globalization in Indian Ocean History (3)

  • Academic Credits: 3

Examines the history of globalization by looking at the Indian Ocean as a space of economic and cultural exchange. Themes include technology and exchange, politics and space, people and mobility, and culture and representation.

Traces the modern history and contemporary cultures of Asian migration, from approximately 1850 to the present. Explores how global historical trends, including overseas exploration, colonialism, capitalism, nation-building, and war, have shaped patterns of Asian migration.
