The course is designed to give students an understanding of Mexican American culture and life through a wide study of their cultural exchanges,
changing social relations, political ethos, labor conflicts, immigration patterns, educational experiences, healthcare access, religious practices,
identity expressions, nativism dynamics, and family structure patterns. Along the way, we will gain a greater understanding of how the shifting
social construct of race influences public behavior and self-identity of the Mexican American community—a community that has grown substantially
from approximately 100,000 at the turn of the twentieth century to nearly 40 million today (12.5% of the overall U.S. population and about 62% of
the collective Latinx community).

Credit not given for both this course and 01:595:351.
