History of women behaving badly in the late 19th- and early 20th-century United States. Examines histories of women criminals as well as experiences of women who transgressed racial, gendered, and sexual boundaries. Analysis of crime and female sexual deviance as well as efforts to curtail and reform disorderly women. Emphasis on social constructions of morality, delinquency, and womanhood.
