Political relationship of the Jewish community to the Gentile authorities among whom they lived, from Rome in 70 CE to the contemporary period. Continuities and discontinuities of traditional conceptions of Jewish political behavior; rebellion and accommodation to structures of power in varying historical contexts. Prerequisite: At least one course in Jewish or European history after 1500. Credit not given for both this course and 01:563:389 and 01:790:384.
