The History/Political Science Joint Major is numbered 514 in the university's list of majors.
This major is an integrated program consisting of 45 credit hours from the combined disciplines, and not less than twenty-one credits from each. At least twenty-seven (27) of the forty-five (45) credits must be at the 300 level or above. In political science, at least twelve of the credits must be at the 300-400 level. The student must take the History Workshop (506:299); it is recommended that you take the History Workshop before the end of sophomore year. The student must also take the History Seminar (506:401 or 402), or Public History Internship (506:451). All courses must be completed with grades of "C" or better.
The History Component of the History/Political Science Joint Major will include the following courses:
- At least one course in each of the three following areas: 1) United States History (512), 2) European History (510), 3) Global, African, Asian, Latin American, or Native American history (selected 506 and 508 courses).
- At least one course in the history of some period prior to 1500 A.D. (pre-modern course- click here)
- At least four courses at the 300-400 level.
Advising and certification of History/Political Science Joint Majors is handled by the History Department's faculty.
