The talk will highlight the incredibly important interventions of her forthcoming monograph They Were Her Property: White Women as Slave Owners in the American South, which is set for release with Yale University Press on February 19, 2019. They Were Her Property is a revised version of Professor Jones-Rogers’ dissertation written under the supervision of Professor Deborah Gray White. The dissertation won the Organization of American Historians Lerner-Scott Prize for the best doctoral dissertation in U.S. women’s history in 2013.
