Professor Kent specializes in modern British history, focusing on gender, culture, imperialism, and politics. Her many books include: Gender and Politics in Britain, 1640-1990 (1999); The Global Influenza Pandemic of 1918-1919 (2012); A New History of Britain: Four Nations and an Empire (2016); and Gender, a World History (November 2020). Kent held a

National Endowment for Humanities Fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
