The conference is organized around the two-decade anniversary of the publication of Dipesh Chakrabarty’s Provincializing Europe. We invited participants to consider the legacy of Chakrabarty’s critiques, as well as the meaning of writing histories from perspectives “beyond Europe.” Our keynote speaker, Ananya Chakravarti, is an Associate Professor of History at Georgetown University. Her talk is titled "“The 'Authentic' Slot: History and the Work of Provincializing Postcolonialism." For a full schedule of the day's events, please see the attached program.
