This essay focuses on media practices that address the 1965-66 US-backed anti-communist genocide in Indonesia. Lasmana examines how various communities utilize new media to confront the past, shatter state narratives, and reclaim their personal histories. Everyday archives transform the public’s relationship to historical trauma by opening up robust spaces for community and intergenerational collaborations, as well as media practices outside the state’s purview and surveillance.
