Stephan Steiner is professor at Sigmund Freud University Vienna, where he also serves as the head of the Institute for Transcultural and Historical Research. He has published several books and a wide range of articles on questions of extreme violence in early and late modernity. His books include Reisen ohne Wiederkehr. Die Deportation von Protestanten aus K rnten 1734?1736 (2006), R ckkehr unerw nscht. Deportationen in der Habsburgermonarchie der Fr hen Neuzeit und ihr europ ischer Kontext (2014), and Combating the Hydra. Violence an Resistance in the Habsburg Empire, 1500-1900 (2023). He also served as the editor of a special issue of the journal ?Fr hneuzeit-Info?, titled ?Gypsies? in Early Modern Europe.
