Nick Sprenger is a seventh year PhD candidate who studies the history of imperial violence in the British Empire during the nineteenth century. His dissertation, tentatively titled "The Outrage of Empire," explores how local violence--termed outrage--shaped the changes during the Age of Reform. Nick explores this history through four sites: Britain, Ireland, Jamaica, and Australia. His dissertation links together histories of emotion, violence, and discourse analysis, along with the history of reform.
