Nick Sprenger is a PhD candidate who studies the history of imperial violence in the British Empire during the nineteenth century. His dissertation, tentatively titled "The Outrage of Empire," explores how local violence--termed outrage--shaped the changes during the Age of Reform. Nick explores this history through four sites: Britain, Ireland, Jamaica, and Australia. His dissertation links together histories of emotion, violence, and discourse analysis, along with the history of reform.
