Moyagaye Bedward is a doctoral candidate with specializations in the history of the Modern Middle East and Africa. Her dissertation, " 'They say that we are from Africa': Race, Slavery, and Haratin Identity Formation in the Struggle for Moroccan Nationalism " interrogates the processes of identity formation and belonging for the Haratin community of the Draa valley in the colonial and nationalist period of 20th century Morocco. Her work has been supported by grants from the Center for Arabic Studies Abroad (CASA), Fulbright IIE, and the American Institute for Maghrib studies.
