Yulia is an advanced PhD candidate. Her dissertation “‘Knowledge is Power’: Soviet Mass Education and the Making of the Well-Rounded Person, 1943-1993” investigates the Soviet belief in the transformative power of knowledge and self-improvement, examining the intersections of ideology, knowledge dissemination, and the fashioning of socialist subjectivity in the late Soviet period. Yulia’s research is supported by Susman Dissertation Fellowship (2024-2025), Linda Hall Library Fellowship (2023-2024) and Social Science Research Council’s International Dissertation Research Fellowship (2020-2021).
