Aries is a PhD candidate in History and specializing in the history of U.S.-East Asian relations during the 20th century. Her dissertation “Shared Past, Discordant Memories” explores and compares how Americans and the Chinese (in mainland China and Taiwan) have recalled the U.S. World War II military presence and the U.S.-China wartime military cooperation. She investigates how such memories have interacted with politics, international relations, and identity formation in the past seven decades. Aries received her B.A. and M.A. in history from Northeast Normal University in China.
