Aries Li is a PhD candidate in the History Department at Rutgers University. She is writing her dissertation “Shared Past, Discordant Memories,” which explores the profound ways that memories of U.S.-China World War II military cooperation influenced American–Chinese relations during the past eight decades. Her recent works have appeared in the Journal of American-East Asian Relations and The Diplomat. Her research has been supported by scholarships from Harvard University’s Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library, the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations, and the John F.
