Colin O’Connell is a PhD student studying Modern European History and Women’s and Gender History. Colin’s research examines the dichotomy between the harsh, unrelenting character of Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government and the vibrancy of queer life in the reactionary years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in 1980s Britain. Colin is interested in how plays of power and resistance in this historical context affect the making of the self for queer individuals.
