Hugh Goffinet is a first-year PhD student in African American and African Diasporic History. He received his B.A. in History with a Minor in Africana Studies in 2024 from Howard University, where he was also a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow. His research interests surround the Mid 19th Century immigration of Afro West Indians to the United States and how they participated in the Black Nation-building project of the 1850s through the 1880s.
