Nia-Patrice Lewis is a first-year PhD student focusing on the history of the early modern Atlantic world and the African diaspora. She received her B.A. in History and Africana & Latin American Studies from Colgate University and her M.A. in History from William & Mary. Her research concerns the lives of enslaved Black women, with a particular focus on motherhood, kinship ties, and reproduction. She seeks to explore both the intimate and particular facets of these womens' lives, and the broader social histories that they collectively form.
